33 days and I am going nuts!!!

I can't believe I am a month away from making the biggest life change in my mid life years. You are probably wondering what's the big deal, people move every day and life goes on. Well to start with, I have never lived outside of Illinois or been away from my parents for more than 2 weeks. (except for the year off trip I took in 2003). Life has always been predictable.
The hardest part of making the decision to move abroad is the distance. It doesn't bother me that I won't see the old friends because those relationships have changed a lot over the years. What will be difficult is living so far away from my aging parents. My mom and I talked every morning on my way to school. We would have some really interesting discussions, from family gossip to politics. I will miss those conversations because they were like that first cup of coffee that starts your day.
I've decided to start a blog. I want to share my experience getting ready for our move to Egypt and living as an expat in North Africa. I will be teaching 5th grade at one of the top International Schools in Cairo. I decided two years ago I want to teach and live an expat life. I feel very blessed to have my first teaching experience in Cairo, Egypt. We visited Egypt in 2003 and always wanted to return.
Well the clock is ticking and my apartment look's like a messy second hand shop. I've been waking up lately feeling overwhelm and nervous about getting rid of all of our stuff. Our wonderful families and friends want to get together before our August 29th departure. It is becoming harder to find time on the calendar to plan social outings.
